C1 means corrosion, roughly fist-sized.

corrosion
Corrosion is a step past rust. Where S means the surface has gone, C means the metal is being consumed and may already be perforated.
The repair is not paint. It is cutting the affected metal out, fabricating or sourcing a patch, welding it in and refinishing, and on a 25-year-old import the panel you want may not exist new.
Some auction houses use C where others would write S2 or S3. Read the legend printed on the sheet itself before you take the letter literally.
What it should do to your bid
Assume a C mark hides a second one nearby. Corrosion does not arrive alone.
Where sources disagree
Guides agree C means corrosion and that C1 is roughly fist-sized. The boundary between S and C is not consistent between auction houses.
We tell you this rather than picking the reading that sounds most confident. The legend printed on your own sheet is the authority for your own car.
