E1
E marks mean small dimples, counted rather than sized.
Where U grades a dent by size, E counts dimples: E1 a few, E2 several, E3 many. They are the marks hail, gravel and careless car parks leave.
Paintless dent removal is priced per dimple until the count gets high, at which point a technician charges by the panel. An E3 roof and bonnet is a panel job.
Not every auction house uses E. Some put the same damage under U1, and one major guide treats E3 as simply a barely visible dent. Check the legend on your own sheet.
What it should do to your bid
Adjust for an E3 across several panels. Ignore a single E1.
Where sources disagree
The E series is less standardised than U. Guides disagree on whether E counts dimples or grades faint dents, and some auction houses do not use it.
We tell you this rather than picking the reading that sounds most confident. The legend printed on your own sheet is the authority for your own car.
